MUN

“Why do you think that I should be in the Model of United Nations? I don’t see any reason for participating in that. It’s very complicated and boring. Furthermore, I don’t have time to waste ” told me a guy from Caracas. “If I state 5 reasons for being in the MUN, will you accept to participate in it?” I asked. “Well, begin to count”, he said.

First, you will develop qualities like diction, oratory, fluency of speech, intonation, and many others which you will need for the rest of your life.

Second, as you’ll talk and discuss in public, you will become confident when sharing your ideas in front of a committee, even if these are against the others’ ideas and opinion. You’ll forget the scenic fear and win character.

Third, when we go to MUNs, we really prepare ourselves and study everything there is to know about the topic, including the countries we come to represents and those represented by others. In addition, we are always in search of information about world current affairs to be better prepared for the debate. Thanks to MUNs, we acquire knowledge and General Culture.

Fourth, the people who assist to MUNs or “Munners”, like them the same or more than you, because they get the opportunity to make new friends.

Fifth and last, in a model you pretend to solve real problems, and the true is that the solution proposed in that committee won’t ever take place. However, the sensation of your participation in the event and the thought that students want to solve and discuss the future of our world, fill you with happiness and make you believe in a better future. You will want to participate because you feel like a world citizen.

On hearing my reasons, the Caracas’ guy said that he didn’t have words for that and he only shook my hand and followed me in the MUN career. Today he is the General Secretary of the STV’s delegation and my close friend.

Martin Luther King one time said “If the man doesn’t have anything to die for, he isn’t worthy to be alive”. Find something to live for and be worthy to be alive.
