ENGLISH ACTIVITIES IN THE FIRST TERM OF THIS YEAR

The term started with great changes in our classes, especially the English ones. To start with, the term began in September instead of October, as we were all accustomed to. The second great change was the teacher: After years of having a male English teacher, we now have a woman and, behold! Her accent is British!!!

Fourth Year refreshed its knowledge on the present, past and future tenses: They were able to write about themselves, their activities and preferences, using the present simple and continuous tenses. Additionally, they could recall an important event in their past, using the past simple and continuous tenses. The students were able to use emphasis, reflexive pronouns and purpose in a role play activity and tested their minds in written evaluations on modal auxiliary verbs and the future tenses.

Fifth Year could practice the use of pronouns – personal, objective, possessive -, possessive adjective and possessive form in a very demanding class activity. A written exam proved what they knew about the future progressive tense, the articles and some prefixes. In groups of 3, the students compared 2 things of their choice, using posters that they had prepared in class. In addition to their final culinary European project, they explained the preparation of a dish of their choice, using countable and uncountable food nouns and we were even lucky enough to try such delicatessens. A written exam on the different forms of the verb TO USE closed our very busy first term.

Sixth Year started learning about the simple past of some regular and irregular verbs. The children could then describe events in the past of other people, especially during their vacations. It was also great to learn about shops and things they can buy at those places. They could also get acquainted with quantities and forms in which the different learned items come. They could also use the past continuous tense when reading about the activities of 2 young magicians who are very fond of the Great Houdini. In order to close their PEIC project of the term, the Sixth Graders presented a condensed account of the great ancient American Civilizations, namely the Mayans, the Incas and the Aztecs, through the pictured power point called “Civilization of the Ancient Americans”.

It was an exciting term. We are now getting ready for Christmas and hoping the next term is even better than this one.
